February has pulled us right into a fantastic 2008, with lots of interesting things happening out on the reef. The good food is obviously still hanging around because we have had continued sightings of Manta Rays throughout most of February. Whale Sharks have continued to show themselves in the area and we hope that their visits are the shape of things to come. 

The visibility is holding out, even at this time of year we are experiencing plenty of days where it is 15 metres. It is amazing to still see all those babies growing, this month is a time when all the young Featherstars are appearing and finding good places to sit out in the current. It’s like a day at the races at this time of year, there are Feathers of all sizes everywhere you look!

We have also had quite a few Octopus sightings, such elusive animals are usually hard to find as they readily hide in small crevices and tend to avoid reef visitors. But this month they have been much more visible, sitting on top of the coral and allowing us to see them at quite close quarters.

Baby White Tip Reef Sharks have become regular visitors to many of our sites and they continue to delight both snorkellers and divers. Although still very shy, they are sighted on many trips to our favourite sites.

As the weather continues to be somewhat variable at the moment, we have been fortunate to experience more than a few of those breath-taking glassy days that we all dream of - where the surface of the water is so flat that you can see the bottom when you are still on the boat, and every ripple allows us to see animals such as Pilot Whales and Dolphins that we might otherwise miss.
